Hollywood icon Robert Redford has died Tuesday at 89. Redford died "at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah — the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved," publicist Cindi Berger said in a statement that was reported by The Associated Press. No cause of death was provided.

Actor and director Robert Redford, who has died aged 89, was known as much for his activism as his Oscar-winning films.

Redford's screen career spanned over 60 years and included a Best Director Oscar for 1980's Ordinary People and an Honorary Academy Award in 2002.
