Naomi Osaka’s dream run at the US Open is over after she lost a gripping semi-final to Amanda Anisimova in New York. Anisimova, the world No 9 from the United States, progressed to her second consecutive grand slam final, seeing off Osaka of Japan 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 in a match that lasted almost three hours.
Amanda Anisimova avenged her loss in the Wimbledon final to Iga Swiatek on Wednesday at the 2025 US Open. The American No. 8 seed beat the No. 2 seed in straight sets to advance to her third career Grand Slam semifinal. Anisimova and No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula are the only American singles players left in the men's or women's draws.
Osaka's first bout with depression came in 2018 during the US Open. She kept her challenges to herself for much of the next three years, claiming major titles in spite of her toils. Osaka then pulled out of the 2021 French Open, five days after announcing she would be skipping post-match interviews to protect her mental health.
