Men's Olympic speed skating records: American Jordan Stolz now boasts two of fastest times in history of games
Stolz made history not once, but twice, in Milan.
Stolz, a 21-year-old Wisconsin native, recorded a time of 33.77 seconds. Jenning de Boo (33.88) from the Netherlands took home the silver while Laurent Dubreuil (34.26) claimed bronze. It’s the second straight gold medal and Olympic record for Stolz. He did both in the 1,000-meter competition, when he recorded a time of 1:06.28.
As is tradition, the Netherlands has a number of athletes who have the potential to medal in the event. Femke Kok, Marrit Fledderus and Jutta Leerdam are among the top-ranked 1000m skaters heading into the Winter Games. It was Leerdam who won the silver medal in Beijing four years ago.
The U.S. speed skater is already 1-for-1 in golds in these Games and gets another chance to add to his trophy case in the 500m event Saturday morning.
