The Boilermakers were scheduled to honor the 25th anniversary of their Rose Bowl team as they opened Big Ten play. Those plans have been delayed.
The game was supposed to start at 7 p.m., but instead was delayed and the fans were asked to leave the seating bowl and head to shelter in the stadium. At 6:55 p.m., fans were allowed to leave the stadium to find shelter and permitted to return when the delay ended.
The Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars season opener is on a delay due to lightning strikes around the stadium in Jacksonville.
There wasn’t much scoring between the Broncos and Titans for most of the first half. But late in the second quarter, Tennessee’s offensive play-calling gave Denver an opportunity, and now the Broncos have a 10-9 lead at halftime.

Sunday will mark 55 years since tragedy struck Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg. Two football players were hit by lightning during a practice huddle on the field and killed on Sept, 7, 1970. The school and the team gathered to honor their families during a special ceremony.
